Topgrading - (Intensive 'Peak Performer' Selection)
Twenty-five percent of people hired and promoted by most companies turn out to be high performers, but using the topgrading interview methods some businesses can achieve 90% success. The Topgrading method is a 3-4 hour, chronological interview, with 20 questions about every job - scrutinizing every success, every failure, every key relationship, every performance appraisal, and every method of achieving results. Following the topgrading interview, the candidate organizes reference checks with a minimum of all bosses in the past ten years, most of those references will talk about the candidate, if he or she is an A player. Topgrading helps companies avoid the costly mistakes of hiring the wrong person for the job (mis-hires cost anywhere from 100-150% of a person’s yearly salary).

Myers Briggs Behavioral Interviews
Behavioral interviews are used as a tool to identify candidates who have the behavioral traits and characteristics that a company has selected as necessary for success in a particular job.
Additionally, behavioral interviews ask the candidate to pinpoint specific instances in which a particular behavior was exhibited in the past.
Behavioral Interview Process:
- Start by identifying what a company wants the employee to do in the open job.
- Use job evaluation and write a job description to describe the requirements of the position.
- Determine the required outputs and performance success factors for the job.
- Determine the characteristics and traits of the individual whom a company believes will succeed in that job. If there are employees successfully performing the job currently, list the traits, characteristics, and skills they bring to the job.
- Narrow the list to key behavioral traits for the job.
- Write a job ad or job posting that employs the behavioral characteristics in the text. Make sure the characteristics or requirements section of the job description lists the same behavioral characteristics.
- Make a list of questions, both behavioral and topgrading, to ask each candidate during the behavioral interview.
- Review the resumes and cover letters received with the behavioral traits and characteristics in mind.
- Phone screen the candidates who seem to be a fit with their qualifications, to further narrow the candidate pool.
- Schedule interviews with the candidates who most appear to have the behavioral characteristics, along with the skills, experience, education, and the other factors needed for the job.
- Ask your list of behavioral and topgrading questions of each candidate being interviewed.
- Narrow the candidate choices based on their responses to the behavioral and topgrading interview questions.
- Present the best candidates with behavioral characteristics that match the needs of the job to a company.
